As a sister project to Izanami, I began the large scale fiber installation, Yomi, in April of 2020 for my solo show at Method Gallery. “Yomi,” in English means, “the land of darkness,” which in the west is understood to be the underworld. I crocheted this work during quarantine as a form of meditation, seeing our tightly interconnected realities as a woven spiral. The womb holds this history. The piece was hung from a modern electric tower on Chief Sealth trail where I collaborated with poets, sound artists, and spiritual practitioners to host a pop up prayer circle. Through this work I create my personal universe of wombly power, heroinism, and victory.
